Educational institutions have finally caught up using the technology their students are so knowledgeable with, and are utilizing it to trace truants.
Several schools have presented an automated computer system which directs text messages or free web mail alerts to parents or guardians requesting these people to explain the reason why their kid is not at school. Parents may then respond with an explanation why their child is away from school..
The Government has labeled the method as an “innovative” solution to decrease the intense truancy issue.
The computerized initiative was operated by exclusive companies and one Wellington high school predicted it would certainly cost $6000 per year.
Education Minister Anne Tolley has advised ministry employees to begin surveying universities next month to evaluate nationwide truancy rates and discuss her on the battle towards non-attendance.
The past survey in 2006 revealed that as much as 30,000 students were cutting class every week.
Wainuiomata High School has stated since making use of the system, their truancy rate had decreased.
