Netiquette, or generally referred to as email etiquette, is about the proper manners that Web users should be accountable for. Cyberspace has its own culture, and has developed its own rules. Without knowing the appropriate netiquette, you might commit some social mistake or offend people without meaning to.
Netiquette rules are influenced by common sense and respect, but since a free web email is so quick, we often forget that we are still using a form of written communication.
Netiquette is “cyberspeak” for etiquette – manners, civility and shared rules.
Netiquette is, of course, an expression derived from the homophonic but more formally established word, etiquette. Like the latter, the former is the coda by which members of a community – in this case, the community you find online – negotiate the exchange of ideas and information in as civil a manner as possible.
Netiquette is only as vital as you want to make it. If you would like your voice to be heard and honored, appropriate netiquette is actually essential. If, otherwise, everything that concerns you is alleviating dullness, you might not consider it all that essential at all. Some online forums and discussions demand a particular level of decorum, while on others individuals are free to behave as despicably as they wish.
Freedom of expression appears to rule above all else on the web, typically at the expense of appropriate manners.
